This Fountain Point Resort Lake Leelanau Northern Michigan wedding was spectacular in so many ways. As I drove up towards Traverse City in the early morning on Saturday I excitedly thought about the day ahead of me. There was rain in the forecast but I knew the weather wasn’t going to stop this wedding from being amazing!
When Sarah and I arrived, we pulled out our rain boots and starting walking around the beautiful property at Fountain Point Resort in Lake Leelanau, Michigan. When Sarah found out I was going to be shooting a wedding near Traverse City she couldn’t resist coming along for the beautiful scenery and great northern michigan vibes! And that is exactly what we got!
As the rest of the vendors ran around frantically with the approaching rain, we stayed calm and soaked in the scenery and prepared to take spectacular photographs of Lauren and Nate. Lauren looked absolutely stunning in her dress and her bridal party could not have been more adorably bohemian with their floral crowns. The whole day was filled with gorgeous little details, love filled moments, and crazy rain!
Their ceremony was held on the porch of the Inn due to the rain, but it didn’t matter because it was still perfect! Their close friend and relative was the officiant for the ceremony and by the amount of tears I captured, I could tell that it was all so heartfelt! After their beautiful ceremony, it was time to capture the precious moments between Lauren and Nate.
We took some stunning shots of these two on the porch of the Inn after their guests headed to cocktail hour. The rain was still coming down, so we looked for another dry location, and I am so happy that we did! Inside the Inn there is a location, known as the museum, that has the most beautiful light. As they sat near a window exchanging sweet words of how much they loved each other, I couldn’t help but smile as I documented the love between them. It was perfection.
But soon enough, it was time for their fun reception to begin. We grabbed our umbrella and headed to the reception tent near the lake. Lauren and Nate entered the tent and were greeted by a fantastic band and confetti thrown by the bridal party. It was definitely a fun entrance! Shortly after, Lauren and Nate shared their first dance as the rain poured onto the dance floor. But in that moment, nothing else matter.
And let me tell you, the magic didn’t stop there. As dinner came to a close, a bridesmaid stood at the front to tell a speech. It was hilarious and heartwarming, but then she surprised everyone! She grabbed a guitar and starting singing, and then other members of the bridal party went to the front and grabbed instruments, and then soon enough guests stood up with kazoos and started to play along. It was the cutest thing ever! And such a fun surprise!
As the night went on, the rain stopped and it was such a joyous occasion when the tent walls came down and all the guests walked out onto the grass to enjoy the last bits of sunshine. I walked around the lawn photographing guests laughing and chatting. And as Lauren and Nate were enjoying the setting sun, their beautiful cake arrived! It was so adorable and looked delicious! Just as we were heading over to photograph the cake being cut, all the guests started to pour back into the tent. I was surprised by their excitement for cake, but I soon realized that another storm was about to hit. Just after Lauren and Nate fed each other their wedding cake, it started to pour! All the guests gathered together again and the dancing started back up! They were such a fun group of people to photograph on the dance floor! They were killing it!
This day showed me that the external factors on your wedding day have no importance, the only thing that matters is the love between two people. And Lauren and Nate have that special kind of love. Take a peek and you’ll see!
