Fine Art // Editing for the Modern Wedding
Since I began photographing weddings, almost a decade ago, things in wedding photography have changed, dramatically! Stylistic changes, client preferences, album designs, technology advances, and editing styles are just a few of the many ongoing changes. As a photographer, I’ve tried to stay up on it all while staying true to my own artistic vision and style.
Hottest trends tend to be images with an “artistic” editing feel. You’ll notice that many photographers edit their entire wedding galleries with what I refer to as a “fine art edit”. This can be done beautifully, but it doesn’t always work for every photograph, wedding, engagement etc. It’s a trend, just like the different angles and interesting lighting that was all the rage when I began. But it’s something we really enjoy adding in.
Fine art photography is not limited to a dingy filter that photographers apply to their photographs. Fine art photography is truly supposed to be artistic. It is meant to depict photographs with the artist’s (in this case photographer’s) creative vision. They are meant to draw the viewer in and elicit emotion, and truly depict the feeling of the photograph.
With that said, we provide our clients with a beautiful, timeless mix of both fine art edits and modern edits. These modern edits are clean. They are simple and pure. It is the original image enhanced the way it should be and the way you will love it in 20 years. Then we hand select our favorite images for fine art edits. These are selected with purpose in mind. These images tell a story, share an emotion, and have an artistic edge that the other traditional photographs do not have.
To help you see our creative vision and understand our editing style, here are a few examples.
I will show you what an image looks like in our modern clean edit as well as in our fine art.
When we post our blogs we tend to mix the two because for us it continues to tell YOUR story. Generally you will notice a difference between the two and we do find the fine arts are a BIG HIT! When we post galleries to clients they do have a separate tab labeled “Fine Art Edits” which is where we put those for them to enjoy.
I hope you see the love we have in both of these styles as we feel pretty great about the way we tell love stories.
xoxoxo,
Sarah
