It’s Tuesday February 25 my business cards just arrived in the mail, I’m packing my bags and prepping to take my business to the next level this year. Before I head out for the WPPI Convention in Las Vegas, NV I wanted to post a little bit about me, my business and my goals this year. One of the most important parts of my business is displaying to everyone who I am. Sure, I’m there to take photos at a wedding or even a portrait session. Most people don’t think twice but taking pictures means a lot more too me. It’s more then just taking pictures at a wedding, it’s my life, my passion, my love and my everything. With that comes branding. Branding does not come easy too me, at all. In fact, if you’ve been following me from day one you’ll know I’ve changed things up quite a bit. There’s a few reasons why I do that, number one :: because I have been trying to define who I am as a person in colors, font and textures. That isn’t easy. And number two :: I like to keep things spiced up!
Attending WPPI has been a big deal for me. This is my third year attending and I can’t tell you how valuable it has been. Of course I’m there to learn but it also has helped me make huge strides on finding who I am. Networking with incredible photographers around the world, hearing their story makes me dig a little deeper inside myself to display in my business because it is a representation of … me!
I knew I wanted to start 2014 off fresh, fun, exciting and put myself out there for everyone. When it came to rebranding I was on the lookout. I wanted someone outside of the box. I didn’t want to go to the same designers everyone else was going to. I didn’t want my designer to have logos that all looked the same. Then I found the right person, in fact she was sitting right in front of me! It was my step sister, Amanda Lasser.
“Amanda Lasser is an interactive designer with experience in magazine publishing, advertising agencies and boutique design firms. Before joining Macy’s.com, Amanda oversaw all of Lord & Taylor’s online and digital creative. Amanda holds a Master’s in Communication Design from Pratt Institute. I contacted Amanda and gave her a little run down of my inspiration. I had already started a board in 2013 with my likes and dislikes and sent it over right away. Thankfully, she got me. She understood where i was coming from and immediately started the process.
Amanda sent me a few rough draft fonts to start out, that way she had a better idea of what direction to go in and this is what she came up with …
I remember Amanda saying go with your gut, don’t second guess yourself. And I did.
So after the initial design we went to this …
Excitingly I chose my favorite and I even “peeked” it on my instagram
And finally Amanda completed my logo and delivered this too me …
You guys I was SOOOOOOO EXCITED. Let me explain something really quick. I didn’t want something so incredibly business because what I do is capture you, being YOU. It isn’t all business is incredibly personal too me. While it looks eccentric, that exactly who I am. I am eccentric, I love being with happy people and I absolutely love documenting their life. I am so happy that Amanda could see that through talking too me, seeing my inspiration board and even through our emails back and forth. I am so happy she designed this for me and even more so because she was able to convey my personality through my brand in a way that I struggled to find.
Thank you so much Amanda I absolutely LOVE the new look and cannot wait to start this season off with a new look!
